Christmas Outreach / St. Mary’s Refugee Sponsorship
As we look to begin our journey into the season of Advent, our lives are slowly being prepared for Christmas, and this moment were the Word of God becomes flesh and dwells among us. As Christians, we see in the gift of the Christ child, the fullness of God, and the path to holiness. We see, in God taking on our human-likeness, the true beauty of what real gift giving can be. That when we truly think of others, and give with grace and unselfish love, that the world is transformed into a beautiful, bright and joyful place.
As we look to our Outreach Giving Project for 2021, this year St. Mary’s would like to focus our attention on helping the Mohebbi family as they settle into their new life in Canada. We are delighted to report that the children are enrolled in school. Mansoor and Freshta are attending Langstaff S.S. in grades 12 and 9 respectively, while Eraj is in grade 8 at Charles Howitt P.S. Their parents, Kazim and Simin are registered for ESL classes. The family matriarch, Zahra, is feeling better but still requires much care. The family is just very happy to be all together and for Ibrahim, the assurance that at least some of his family is out of harm’s way is a blessing. For this we give thanks.
Our focus for this appeal is to help with part of the family’s agreement with Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada. The family was required to take a loan, to cover their transportation cost from Tajikistan to Canada. The loan must be repaid in full by month seven of the first year in Canada. The transportation loan for this six person family, totals $10,000. We would like to offer our support as a Parish and assist as we are able, with helping to pay the transportation loan. We would ask that you please consider supporting this year’s Christmas Outreach initiative, and contribute towards the airfare cost for the Mohebbi’s.
Donations can be made online from the St. Mary’s web page, designating the donation for Outreach, and noting refugee sponsorship in the comments. You may also use the Christmas Envelopes are available from the church office, or are also available on Sundays at the back of the church.
Thank you to all the members of our parish for supporting this family as their begin their new life here in Canada.
